John E. Harmer (born 7th Feb 1911) was the son of Joseph Smith Harmer (1882 – 1957), who was the fourth child of John Harmer Jnr. – which makes him our John Harmer’s great grandson! Various Ancestry trees refer to John as ‘Jack’ – just as our John Harmer was known.
Marriage
Until 1935 John appears in the Newark street directories at (301) 17 Halleck, which was his parents’ home.
In April 1942 John’s father Joseph completed a Draft Registration Card, indicating that he was willing and able to fight during WWII. He gave his address as 17 Halleck Street, Newark, Essex, N.J., and ‘John Harmer’ of 24 Brenner Street, Newark, N.J as his next of kin.
We can conclude therefore that Joseph married between 1935 and 1942, and moved to Brenner Street. His bride Theresa W. Wittman was born on 25th March 1914 at Newark, N.J. She was the daughter of Frank and Theresa (nee Tompeck ) Wittman [U.S. Social Security Death Index].
Theresa died on 29th of April 2004 at Lakewood, Ocean, N.J.

John served with the U.S. Military between 17th July 1943 and 13th January 1946 [U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File, 1850-2010].
